Today, I'm hopping back to Heathrow with Aegean Airlines in business class, but it didn't start off as a business class ticket…

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092619

I booked a ticket via Aegean's website in Economy and opted into a €135 PlusGrade upgrade offer.

And much to my surprise… It was accepted! Even though it was categorised as "low" on the site. Just goes to show that being cheeky sometimes pays off!

Athens airport is quite relaxing to be fair. I didn't encounter any issues navigating around the terminal.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092558

Aegean and the wider Star Alliance check in desks are located to the left in Zone A.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092607

And the PlusGrade upgrade gives you all the perks of a regular Business Class ticket (accept points/miles accrual).

The Aegean flagship lounge is located on Level 3.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092654

And I really love the facade. It's bright, airy, and really well designed.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092700

These blue shiny panels really elevate the lounge and give it a Premium feel. Aegean are certainly proud of their heritage and brand.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092708

There's an array of newspapers and magazines on offer, all complimentary of course.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092715

Not to mention, great apron views to boot!

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092754

I took time out for lunch in the dining area which I had all to myself. I couldn't believe how quiet this lounge was.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092804

I tried the automated Greek coffee machine. It was divine!

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092824

I also had a can of sparkling mint/spearmint water and a freshly-squeezed orange juice.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092835

I opted for the pulled beef cheek minestrone soup (this was delicious).

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092847

And sampled some stellar feta cheese and a black olive roll with feta, tomato and pesto.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092900

Dessert came in the form of fresh wholewheat bread with Greek honey, a chocolate tiffin cake with cranberries and fresh Greek yoghurt with strawberries, honey and pistachios.

And after rolling out the lounge, it was time to board our aircraft. I was aboard this Airbus A321neo back to Heathrow today.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092919

My boarding pass placed me into Group 2 but as their were no Group 1 passengers, I was the first to board the aircraft.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092934

I'm in 3F today, and Aegean configure their business class similar to other European carriers in a 3/3 layout with the middle seat blocked by a cocktail table.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-092948

As you can see, space was ample!

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093000

I was given a "welcome sweet"…

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093014

…and a welcome drink! Champagne was also on offer, too.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093025

After that, we pushed back and climbed out of Athens.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093037

Great views today!

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093049

Sitting behind me to the left was the Greek-Australian ex-Tottenham Hotspur, Celtic and Nottingham Forest manager, Ange Postecoglou. What a nice guy!

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093106

The service began with a scented hot towel.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093119

The starter was a smoked tomato taramasalata with fresh pide, sundried cherry tomatoes and parsley.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093128

The main course was a stuffed eggplant with minced chicken meat, bechamel sauce and Metsovone smoked cheese.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093136

Cheese followed with a selection of Manouri and "Steiakakis" Graviera cheeses.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093147

A white bread roll was served warm.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093159

Alongside a bottle of extra virgin olive oil and a glass jar of black olive tapenade from brand, Navarino Icons.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093210

And yes, metal cutlery and a tablecloth were all in play today!

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093218

Finally, dessert followed separately which was a Semolina Halva. Delicious!

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093230

I then opted for a tea, with milk.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093306

Which was shortly followed by a milk chocolate in the Aegean branding.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093244

I then fell into a food coma, and managed to snag an hour or so of sleep in Aegean's very comfortable seat.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093252

And I woke up to great views!

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093315

One quick check on the toilets which were very clean. It would just have been nice to see Aegean replace this soap with the premium Greek soap that was available in the lounge.

photo screenshot-2026-04-06-at-093325

And before we knew it, the flight had come to an end and we approached London-Heathrow.

Conclusion

Flying Aegean Airlines in business class between Athens and London Heathrow is a reminder that short-haul premium travel in Europe doesn’t have to feel compromised.

In this video, I review Aegean’s Airbus A321neo business class experience, from the standout Athens flagship lounge to the onboard service, catering, and overall cabin experience. I also talk through how I managed to secure a business class using PlusGrade, and why it felt like exceptional value for what was delivered.

While there’s no fully lie-flat seat here, Aegean shows that business class is about far more than just the hardware. White tablecloths, pre-departure drinks, hot towels, and a genuinely full-service approach set this experience apart in a crowded intra-European market. Opa!

  • Hello James Warren

A great experience with Aegean's Business class, among the best business products in Europe

The catering at the lounge looks very tasty, as well as the onboard service

    Thank you for sharing

  • It's nice to see that not all European carriers opt for uncomfortable plain seats!

Even if this one still suffers from economy-seat-with-blocked-middle-business 😅

  • Thanks for a nice trip report! Would be interesting if you put the (estimated) passenger loads in your report :-)
