Introduction
Hello amigos, welcome to Part 2 of my trip to Mexico, Colombia and Turkey.
The previous flight brought me from Madrid to Monterrey in a very good first impression of Aeromexico's longhaul product.

Now let's see how they fare on their domestic leg between Monterrey and Mexico City.
But before that…
Connecting at Monterrey General Mariano Escobedo Intl Airport
Most of my fellow passengers were Mexican citizens who went to their own lane, and being one of the first to deboard, we didn't spend more than 10 minutes going through immigration. We then went down to the bag pick up area.

WiFi at most Mexican airports sucks. Actually at most public venues. And this was not the exception. Bags took more than an hour to come out. I know baggage claim takes hours in MEX, specially on flights from South America. But I wouldn't have expected this on a flight from Europe, and it was the single international flight at the time.
While waiting for my bag, I was trying to figure out how to go to the departures area, as the connections area was unmmaned. Once we retreived our bags, I asked one of the airport staff who pointed us to this "connections" area.

It led to a little place where we could recheck our bag. We were then directed to a lift

And from the lift there was a little security check and then we were free to roam the terminal.

Since we had access to the VIP Room, we headed there. It was small and cozy.

There weren't many food options available, but I was offered a cheese sandwich, which I accepted.

Boarding
Soon boarding time came…the flight was packed.

We were going to fly on the very same 787 that brought us from Madrid.

I was so happy to score a domestic hop on a Dreamliner

A little glimpse to the Business Class seats. Not my favourite configuration for a longhaul, but I wouldn't mind it if not travelling solo.

But we are back to the very same seat I had from Madrid.

Enroute to Mexico City
Once boarding was completed, we were off to CDMX. We were going to take off from RWY 12, so we had a little tour of MTY's three terminals, starting by Terminal B were we arrived/left:

Then Temrminal A, where most airlines operate from

And Terminal C, where Viva operates

Adiós Monterrey!

Our flight's stats:

The flight was pretty much uneventful. But we did get a drinks service. I ordered. a beer hoping to get a Mexican beer…but I got Heineken instead

IFE was provided by the amazing views

I did a little tour of the plane. Toilets were nice and clean.

The cabin was dimmed, I don't get the point of this for such a short flight but…okay I guess.

As we neared CDMX, clouds stepped in…I was scared about loosing the great views landing into MEX.

But it cleared out…

Hola CDMX!

MEX is barely visible…

Rain again…nooo

Better than nothing I guess…

But CDMX is so huge that it rains in some parts, and not in other…nice

So I got nice views of Polanco and the Reforma Avenue buildings. You can see MEX in the background.

We were going to do a U turn over the southwest.

Zoom into MEX

Reforma Avenue

CDMX WTC

Chapultepec

Now crossing Insurgentes Avenue

Torre Latino in view, one of my favourite buildings in the world, in one of my favourite cities. Peak happiness for me.

And touchdown

Interjet's graveyard

MEX's ATC Tower

Reaching Terminal 2…we didn't dock on the international pier, where other 787s were. It does make sense, but I thought it couldn't handle widebodies.

And so…our two leg flight from Madrid came to an end. Thanks for the trip, nameless friend!

Terminal 2 is MEX's better terminal (T1 is a dump). But it is starting to show its age (rumor has it that it was designed to be temporary because they were planning to build a new airport for CDMX eventually, but this didn't come to happen). Fortunately, we didn't have to clear immigration here.

Bags took no time to come out, and we were on our way to our hotel ( CDMX's horrific traffic willing)…
