Hello!

Welcome to this flight report where we look back on a flight I took in August 2016.
This flight is onboard the now defunct airline Virgin America, the airline eventually merged into Alaska Airlines.

Due to being a very quick night time flight I didn't manage to take much photos from this flight.
Anyway…Lets begin.

After around five wonderful days exploring all off what LA could offer I decided to spend my last remaining hours chilled around Santa Monica  Exploring the famous pier, eating ice cream and paddling in the Pacific ocean.

It was time to head for the evening flight from LAX to LAS.

After returning the rental car we hopped onto the transfer bus to Terminal 3.

The check in hall was small but easy to access with hardly anyone queuing up.

Passed through security it was time to check out the departures board and watch the action outside.

Sun Country Airlines Boeing 737-800

Aer Lingus A330-200 loading up for its return flight back to Dublin.

Aero Mexico 737-800 parked next to the Aer Lingus.

For some reason we couldn't find our flight on the departure board so I contacted an airport representative regarding where to go.

Thankfully we managed to spot the aircraft parked up at gate 36.

Virgin America A320-200 registered N855VA which was delivered brand new to the airline in 2012, aged 4 years old as off this flight.

Boarding commenced on time with no hassle.
Settling down in seat 17F, I spotted more great aircrafts.

Lufthansa 747-8I sporting the retro livery.

Delta B717-200.

Norwegian B787-8 with the tail design off  H.C. Andersen, famous 19th century Danish author.

Little while later the tug pushed us out from the gate and heading towards the runway.

The most iconic part off LAX airport is the control tower, I had to snap a photo off it.
Also took photos off two different A330 aircrafts.

Aer Lingus A330-200 pushed back for departure home to Dublin.

The now defunct WOW Air A330-300 parked up waiting for its passengers destined for Iceland.

With no time at all waiting around we soon lined up, full throttled down runway 24L and up into the dusky Californian sky.

Climbing above Playa Del Rey Beach to a sudden quick left turn over the Pacific Ocean, we back tracked towards LA for the journey to Vegas.

Soon after leveling out it was time to watch the moon rise and the town lights bellow disappear as we fly over the Mojave National Park.
One thing I really love about Virgin America is the winglet design on the aircraft, cleanly painted with the US flag.

Due to the flight duration only being within 1 hour the onboard IFE screens was not available to use.
The screens were a decent size for the longer flights.

Unfortunately I forgot to take photos inside the cabin, but the leg space from what I can remember was quite generous with a large enough fold down tray table. The cabin was lit with soft purple and blue lights which is very similar to what Virgin Atlantic have.

No complimentary snack offering on this flight so I had my own selection off nibbles to feed my hunger.

With the sky now in complete darkness the bright lights off Vegas soon lit up the cabin, it was time to buckle our belts and descend into LAS.

I managed to get a fuzzy shot off the famous Las Vegas strip.
Touching down heavily onto the tarmac and braked hard, reverse thrusts applied and sharply turned off towards the terminal.

Ground crew already in place to welcome our aircraft in, they safely placed the wheel chocks.

That was it…. My short lived experience onboard Virgin America came to an end.

Sadly the airline no longer flies but I honestly enjoyed my flight.
VA's crew had an easy flight being a short duration but they attended to everyone's needs professionally.
The cabin was kept very clean and the seating was comfortable enough, if the airline was still flying I wouldn't hesitate on flying them again.

Did you ever get the chance to fly a Virgin America flight? Comment below your experience!
Thank you for reading this report, basic I know but I hope you enjoyed it anyhow.

As always, Keep flying and smiling :)

  • Oh how I miss VX--they were such a cool airline. Although I like AS, it's a shame they've erased any trace of the VX past in so little time.

    Thanks for sharing this retro-report!
