Departure airport
Air Canada operates in terminal 3 at Vienna International Airport. This airport counts with 2 Terminals and 2 runways.
Last year, 31,7 million passengers were in VIE and more than 266k movements. During March 2020, had a Decrease of 65.8% in Passenger Volume (compared with Mar/2019), a total of 808.454 and -50% of the flights: 10.479.
The Check-in for AC is located at the counters 361 to 368, right after Austrian Airlines check-in rows.
After check-in, I proceeded to the X-Ray screening and Passport Control.

Lounge
I went to the Austrian Airlines Business Lounge (Non-Schengen). It was located right after the Passport Control.
The lounge has a seating area and dining area. As breakfast, they only offered scrambled eggs as hot dish, bread, yogurt, cereals and fruit.

Boarding
The boarding gate for this flight was the G36, located right in the end of the Terminal 3.
The airplane from the outbound flight arrived at 8h30 and has a 1h50 turn around.
The schedule boarding time was at 09h40 and it started on-time.
The boarding started with Business Class and Gold Card members followed by Economy Class.

Flight
This flight was operated by a Boeing 787-9, Registration C-FVNB, with 2 years old and Line Number 705. The cabin was divided in 30 business class seats at the first cabin in the configuration 1-2-1, ensuring every passenger had access to the corridor. In the second cabin there is 3 rows of Premium Economy (a total of 21 seats in 2-3-2 configuration) and the Economy class with 12 rows on the 2nd cabin and 15 in the 3 cabin (configuration 3-3-3 and a total of 247 seats)
I was seated at 3A in Economy Class.
The purser introduce herself to me and welcomed onboard. She was very nice and really shows the empathy and friendly personality of Canadians.

The purser also checked my order for lunch.
There is an advise for healthy options and 4 choices for the main course.
Additionally, they offer a service I really appreciate, specially on night flights: to swap the first service and serve it 90 minutes prior to landing. In this case, as the flight was during the day I haven’t requested it.

Air Canada offers to Business Class Passengers an amenities kit from Want Les Essentiels with toothbrush and paste, mouthwash, Floss pick, Lip balm and Hand lotion from Vitruvi, Eyeshades, socks, earplugs and glass cloth.
The aircraft pushed-back 10h34 and taxied to the runway 29.
The actual departure time was at 10h42, 17 minutes after scheduled departure (at 10h25)
After take-off, the airplane headed left to avoid flying over the city and then over Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands and UK.

30 min after departure, drinks and almonds were served. Half and hour later a starter was served: smoked salmon with potatoes, salad and a selection of bread. Later the main course was served. From the 4 options, I chose the lamb chops with polenta, Porto wine sauce and grilled zucchini. To finish, a selection of cheese and ice cream.

The flight was uneventful and I spent my time resting and watching movies. During the flight there were also some snacks, placed on the ottoman in front of seats 1D and 1G, like french fries, chocolates, cookies and water.
1h20 before landing, a light cold meal was served: cold cuts and salad, orange and the famous Mozart chocolate ball.

The aircraft landed on Runway 05 at YYZ at 14h40, 10 minutes before scheduled arrived (at 14h50)
I taxied to the stand 175 and arrived there at 15h00, after, at least, 10 minutes waiting for the sector.

Arrival Airport
Toronto Airport is located 20km northwest to the city and has 2 terminals: T1, the 12th largest in the world, is used by Air Canada & Star Alliance Partners and T3 by the other airlines and alliances. With 5 runways, it is the 30th busiest airport in the world and last year handled 50,5 million passengers.
The disembark was made by the airbridge and I access the Terminal 1 where I proceed to the transfer area where my passport was checked by an automated machine and I accessed the departures terminal without any additional x-ray or security screening.

Then I visited the AC business lounge and flew to Cancun (report will soon be available)
Thank you very much for browsing through my flight report,

Thanks for this FR, Fabio! It's nice that Air Canada offers competition against Austrian out of Vienna, and their J looks very nice - much better than the old product, which I flew to EZE and back in 2013. The seats definitely beat OS's longhaul J, but I'm not sure about the food. AC crews are generally awesome, I must say. Safe travels!
Hi, Thank you for your comment!
Definitely, the product offered by AC is better than the OS, that´s also why they stopped flying to Toronto and now are serving Montreal. Regarding the food I really enjoyed my option and also the possibility of swapping the meals, which is not with Austrian. I flew with AC a couple of times and the crews are always very nice and talkative.
Hello. Thank you for sharing this FR :)
I see you did a good flight onboard Air Canada's Dreamliner. The Business cabin seems very good and you had a good crew. The catering isn't bad as well, although I would have chosen the thai chicken curry instead of the lamb.
See ya ;)
Hi, Thank you for your comment!
I wish I could try them! I saw the crew serving the other passengers and all the options looked quite nice.
Many thanks for this report. AC seems to maintain a very decent standard in business class. I love the new livery, it's so elegant! All the best!
Thank you Fabio for this flight report. AC improved a lot recently for a great fleet renewal. Toronto airport seems also a great connection platform. Overall the right combination:)
Looks like the cabin was only about half full, which definitely helps for social distancing in times of Covid, especially in such a spacious cabin.
A beautiful livery, beautiful and spacious cabin, and great service make for a great flight certainly deserving of the high rating.
Thanks for sharing!
