Hello and welcome to this Flight-Report!
In February I decided to make a trip for two to Canada for one Week which consisted of visiting the cities of Toronto (Where I have been last year for only one night during a trip across Northeast America) and Vancouver (Never been there before).
So this trip consisted of three flights which I booked at lufthansa.com:
- AC873 (booked as Codeshare LH6676) Frankfurt (FRA) - Toronto (YYZ) B773 in Premium Eco ( Look over here )
- AC115 Toronto (YYZ) - Vancouver (YVZ) A321 in Eco ( Look over here )
- LH493 Vancouver (YVR) - Frankfurt (FRA) B744 in Premium Eco ( You are here! )
After having spent some great days in Vancouver it was time to get back home again.

At YVR airport
Originally this flight was booked as Economy but we decided to make an upgrade for Premium Economy around one week before starting our journey. That resulted in having no window seat once again (ouch!).
Vancouver airport is one of the better of it's kind. The terminal may not be one of the newest ones, but still it made a proper impression.

LH 493 was planned for gate D55 and boarding at around 15:45.

The security checks took just few time, so we had enough time to check out the duty free and food offerings.
In terms of interior design I really like this airport. It looks not that sterile as many other airports do

As I arrived at the gate this Air Canada 787-9 had just been pushed out of its parking position.

Spotting in this area is a bit tricky as you can see

However there was enough space for taking a rest. These seats proved to be quite comfy.

As time went by, the area around gate D55 got really crowded, which I think is not that extraordinary when a Boeing 747 arrives here ;)
Our aircraft for this flight arrived on time. D-ABVU had it's maiden flight in december 1998, so it's not that old for a 747-400.

Getting onboard of the "Queen of the skies"
Despite of the arrival being on time, it was announced some more time was needed until the Boeing 747 was ready for boarding and so the passengers were standing all over the place at the gate for some more time.
When boarding finally started, Business Class passengers were allowed to enter first, then Economy passengers starting from the back rows and last Premium Economy passengers.
Air New Zealand and Air Transat are regular visitors here, but no more in Frankfurt.

The effect of Premium Eco passengers boarding last was obvious: Because of the small delay before boarding the service in this class was pretty hastily. The welcome drink (some kind of mixed fruit juice) was served in a hurry. Headphones were only put in some few seat pockets, maybe from the flight before.
Blanket, pillow and a bottle of still water were available as well as an amenity kit (consisting of a sleep mask, earplugs, a pair of socks, toothbrush and -paste - all items of good quality).
The seats were comfy enough for surviving even longer flights without any problems. The legroom was great.

On the way to Frankfurt
Soon after departure headphones were finally handed out, as well as the menu card.

The IFE was great, good resolution and a good selection of movies.

Let's talk about catering…
First, pretzels as well as a choice to drink was offerd - apple juice for me.

I decided for the chicken option which proved to be a good choice. The vegetables were well cooked and the chicken was not too dry. The chocolate cake was delicious.

Soon after the main course and watching a movie I slept for the rest of the night - and I just woke up in time for breakfast. That's why I missed to take more photos from the cabin.
The breakfast was also very good. Coffee and Orange juice for me to drink. The colour of the spinach was much better than it looks on this photo ;)

Shortly after that I went to the rest rooms - classy look, but well maintained and tidy.

The landing was really smooth, as the whole flight was.
We arrived at one of the Z gates which also meant a loooong way to the baggace claim area - but those bags even needed more time to get there ;)

HI Marvin, thanks for sharing this well-photographed report. LH offer a good Premium Economy product overall. Seats look comfortable , the IFE is large, and the meals look good. I just find it odd that on some planes they don't have any separation between the Premium Economy cabin and Economy class. Did you pay for the upgrades in miles or cash--and if it was cash, how much was the upgrade if you don't mind me asking? Thanks for sharing!
Hi Kevin,
I paid 300€ per person for the upgrade which I think is around of the normal price gap between Eco and Premium Eco.
For future bookings I'll definitely consider Premium Eco again.
Thanks for sharing. Looks like a pretty good flight on Lufthansa in PY. Food looks good, but was the price worth it for the upgrade?
Hi,
Next time I would book Premium Eco right at the beginning simply because of the fact that I lost my window seat in Eco ;)
I think Premium Eco is really worth it for flights of 8 hours or more.
