Last mile of the way of this long trip back from Hawaii, and the end of the holidays.
We arrived at gates F and needed to go through D, clear immigration and security. As the D gates are in renovation, the circulation space is very limited and this results in a slow moving crowd. Lots of people at controls, but it is still bearable. And as almost usual, the marechaussée guys are really handsome.
We got a some spare time that we spent in the lounge, which is, as usual, over crowded, where the WiFi does work, where the food offer is scarce but where staff is always nice! No pictures of the lounge, it is well known here, and with that amount of people, not even worth a picture ^^
Boarding was via paxbus, as almost usual, and a bit of spotting on the way:

Short taxi before taking off but an interesting spotting with the old and the new (plus the retro) KLM livery: -I really like the new livery, not a big change, but more classy-

Then the breakfast box is served, and its content is as the crew: not good, not bad. I was not that hungry so I just picked some cheese and fruits and that's it.

Very short flight of 50 minutes, we landed half an hour early. A bit of local traffic. No comments about it, the planes and carriers are all well-known (the only thing that may be commented is the registration of the Air Berlin plane that is registered in Switzerland as operated by Belair, an AB subsidiary. They have 8 Airbus on their fleet)

Last part of my Big Island spotting, with Punaluu black sand beach and its tortoises:

Volcano National Park, lovely, but once you have seen Yellowstone, all other national parks with geological activities seem poor ^^:

We crossed the island via the road #200 (Saddle Road) which was once the worst road of the island. A few years ago, rental cars were not allowed on it. Now it is definitely one of the best of the island. The funny thing is that you drive from sea level to 9'000 feet in half an hour (from East to West), and as Hilo and its region are often cloud covered, you need to drive through the clouds. That makes an interesting experience with a heavy fog to cross. Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures, but driving and picturing is not easy -and not allowed- ^^

And as the Waimea/Kona side has much more sun than the other side, the descent looks like this:

We had a high surf alert with 30 feet + waves due to a north stream, and that evening the sunset was absolutely amazing. You can see the big waves in distance:
