Did you like Mauritius?
Hi
Thank you for the comment!
Semsem, I enjoyed Mauritius! It's a good destination! Not only a beach destination but also with other interesting things to do and see! The only negative aspect is the temperature of the water at July: 24º - cold for me!
Another great report with nice photos! Hope you had a great time in Mauritius and Dubai. I see that you were flying stby; do you work for EK or another carrier? Did you make all the flights you tried for? I'm guessing EK does not upgrade staff or can you pay for standby in business? Thanks for sharing!
Hi
Thank you for the comment!
KévinDC, I'm staff of TAP Portugal. The only flight I lost was the Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Lisbon because the Flight Manager forgot that I had requested jump seats, but Lufthansa has a very bad service for staff... My baggage wasn't checked at Dubai and wasn't shipped to Lisbon, because Lufthansa instead makes check-in, put you in Stand-by and gives the Boarding Pass at boarding gate, Lufthansa just do the check-in after all the passengers... In the most airlines you could buy tickets in business but in Emirates only in Economic and they don't upgrade anyone and refuses to give jump seats!
Thanks for your response! Good to know. I used to work for an airline too and avoided flying LH as staff from bad experiences. Too bad you can't standby for Business on EK, that would be nice! I wonder if they are oversold in Y if they will upgrade pax from Y to J to free up seats for staff instead of just putting staff in J. Travelling as staff became too difficult with the high load factors over the years and I stopped non-reving (as we call it in the US) a long time ago. I now buy all my tickets and don't have to deal with the stress of worrying if I will get on a flight or not.
Thank you for sharing this report with a nice bonus and good photos.
I used to work for two airlines a long time ago and know what you go through with the standby game. I'm surprised to hear about your bad experience with LH. The only time that I flew as an airline employee with them was in the late 1990's from LHR-MUC and surprisingly I was upgraded to J when they issued me my boarding pass. Nowadays I just buy my own tickets and as KevinDC said, I don't have to deal with the stress of not knowing if I will make it on the flight or not. It was fun back then but these days there are just too many people flying and thanks to the internet travelers are savvier than ever.
Your meals look good, but personally I don't like bread wrapped in plastic. I just flew KL and they warm the breads and serve them individually on the tray in Y, and although AF does not heat them, they have decent quality ciabatta type and you are offered refills. One would expect a bit more from EK given their nice reputation. Were you offered a special fruit meal that was an extra one for your second meal? That plate has a lot of fruits.
