Hello everyone and welcome to the very first pheeplanes review in the year 2026 and this time i will be traveling on air japan which is the hybrid low cost airline from ANA down to tokyo narita although i was kind of excited to fly on a hybrid carrier and my first visit to japan. Air japan Operates on 3 B787-8 services to seoul incheon,bangkok and singapore with the main hub being tokyo narita. air japan also deploys the b787-8 to tokyo daily at 12.55am and arrive in tokyo around 8 am in the morning which is good enough to explore tokyo when i arrive.

few hours before departure i check on flightrader24 on which b787-8 will be taking me to tokyo and it turns out to be JA801A which was delivered new to airjapan in april 2024 and previously opperated by ANA on september 2011 and it was arriving into singapore as an inbound flight NQ3 from tokyo narita.

Checkin for our flight was at row 1 at changi airport terminal 2 which also share the same row as ana low cost airline peach aviation to osaka kansai with the a321NeoLR it took about 15 minutes to checkin and then proceeded to gate E24 for boarding the immigration took about 1 minute with facial recognition passportless clearance and cleared security before entering the holding area of gate E24 and here my ride to tokyo narita a 14 year old 5 months b787-8 with the registration JA801A (Juliet alpha 801 Alpha ) it was my 5th time taking the b787 series including the b787-10 on singapore airlines to and from guangzhou.

boarding was called in groups and once my row is called i proceeded to board the 324 all economy b787-8 and i sat in row 16K which is at the front of the b787-8 althought there no ife screens but airjapan has wifi entertainment system which works like silkairstudio by connecting to the ife portal more of that later while were airborne on the seats it has safety card ,buy on board menu and instructions to connect to the wifi and my seat also has dimmedable windows on most of the b787 i have taken unfortunatly the view is quite blurry



once the cabin door was closed the safety demo was done manually while the loud rolls royce engine starting up the b787-8 before taxing to runway

we took off from changi around 1.15Am and i try to connect to the airjapan ife website and it turnout to be limited content of movies as well as interactive flight map the cabin lights were dim for everyone to sleep and i slept for 4 hours and by the time i woke up were nearing japan which will be arriving into tokyo in 2 hours and there no meal service on the midnight flight to tokyo although i prebook a meal on the return flight from tokyo.


I start watching fantastic four the first steps on my ipad before landing into tokyo

we were at the coastline of fukuoka before landing into tokyo few hours before landing into tokyo arrival cards and customs forms were distrubuted by the cabin crew however i did use the visit japan web which uses the qr code to clear both immigration and customs and it was done 3 days before departure.

I also caught the nice view of the sunrise before landing into rainy tokyo narita




We touch down at around 8.18am and then taxi to terminal 1 gate 44 and park right next to wamos a330 300 which is rare to see within asia .We bid goodbye to the friendly cabin crew and my ride to tokyo before proceeding to immigration




Immigration took about 40 minutes at narita airport due to long lines and by the time i cleared immigration my suitcase was off the belt and i collected it before queing up for customs clearance which took about 10 minutes at the visit japan web lane which i have to scan my passport and the visit japan web qr code and the arrival process took about 1 hour .After crossing both customs and immigration i head to the restraunt for my brunch before heading to shinjuku and my airbnb area via the keisei skyliner train although the flight is comfortable despite the limited ife content and definetely will try flying airjapan again do enjoy my tourism bonus in tokyo see you on my next trip report with phee planes bye .
