Connecting in Nashville

I was connecting through BNA on my way to Charlotte today and my flight, ironically was departing from the same gate that I had arrived into early this morning, D8.

Nashville isn’t a big airport in comparison to other airports in the US, but it does have long piers and also has a lot of tourists in Nashville, so the terminal can get busy and you might find people who look confused, so plan accordingly.

Boarding, the Cabin, and Seat

Boarding began right on schedule at 5:30. This was when Southwest still had open seating, so the boarding process was still by their system where you board with a boarding position and have to line up. I had A 16, so I was one of the first on board.

The 737-700 that Southwest operates is in an all economy 3-3 configuration. Each seat, on average, features 30 inches of pitch, 17.1 inches of width, and 1 inch of recline. Unlike Southwest’s 737 MAX 8, there’s no outlets to charge your devices.

I chose 2F, the window seat in the second row.

At some point during boarding, a man had realized that he was on the wrong plane, and had to come all the way back down the aisle and go back into the terminal.

At 9:32, the captain came on to welcome us aboard and he announced our flight time of 44 minutes from takeoff to touchdown.

Taxi and Takeoff

At 9:34, boarding was completed and I got lucky as there was nobody in the middle seat in my row.

At 9:36, the safety demonstration began.

At 9:37, we began our pushback 3 minutes ahead of schedule.

At 9:50, we were rolling down runway 2L for departure.

Cruise

At 9:56, we reached 10,000 feet, meaning we were well on our way to Charlotte.

The flight attendants began their in flight service, and at 10:02, they came around to take my drink order. I went with a Coke Zero. 2 minutes later, it was brought out.

I decided to check out the IFE and entertainment.

Southwest offered free WiFi on this flight if you were a rapid rewards member. All you had to do was sign in to your rapid rewards account and it connects.

Additionally, Southwest offers free entertainment that you can stream on your personal device. The selection was really good, even with some really new releases. I was surprised.

Descent and Arrival

At 11:16 in Charlotte (10:16 in Nashville), the captain came on to announce that we’d begun our descent and we’d be on the ground in about 30 minutes.

photo approach

We touched down at 11:45 a.m. on runway 18R, and began our taxi to the gate. We parked at gate A24 at 11:50 a.m. for a 20 minute early arrival!

Conclusion

Overall, this was a decent flight. It's pretty typical of what you'd expect out of flying with Southwest. I do think that with the changes that Southwest is making to seat changes, and checked baggage... etc. will ruin their reputation and brand as an airline, and people won't "LUV" it as much as they used to!
