Welcome to my third series of flight reports. It's a great pleasure to be able to share the joy of flying to this community and live vicariously through people's posts!
In this series, my wife and I redeemed miles for Singapore Airlines business class flights to Bangkok and Newark for our annual holiday trip. We then flew back in economy class on Korean Air. This will be my first time on Singapore Airlines business class and Korean Air economy class.
Our route routing is weird because I wanted to maximise the length of flights that my miles can bring us, as flying SIN-EWR costs the same number of miles as BKK-SIN-EWR when we redeemed this trip in 2024.
These are the flights I flew for this trip:
Flight routing
- 1SQ710 Singapore SIN - Bangkok BKK, B787-10
- 2SQ709 Bangkok BKK - Singapore SIN, B787-10
- 3SQ22 Singapore SIN - Newark EWR, A350-900ULR
- 4KE86 New York JFK - Seoul ICN, B777-300ER
- 5KE643 Seoul ICN - Singapore SIN, B777-300ER
Before flight: Singapore Changi Airport
Singapore Changi Airport is an incredibly efficient airport to travel through. We got our boarding passes and cleared customs in a short span of 5 minutes.
Singapore Airlines departs from Terminal 2 for Bangkok flights. However, as a lurker of this site and many flight vlogs, I already knew that the SilverKris lounge in Terminal 2 pales deeply in comparison to Terminal 3. Thus we made our way to Terminal 3 at around 8.30am and began our lounge experience.
Terminal 3 Silverkris business class lounge experience
I did not take pictures in the lounge as there were many people around. However, I did take photos of the food options.

As we reached early, there were breakfast and snack options. The otah on toast is delicious.

I got myself a glass of Crossroads lager from a brewery in Singapore. It tasted good.

The baked mushroom with oriental black sauce tasted good too, but nothing to write home about. Aside from these dishes, there were the usual scrambled eggs, bacon, bread and all the usual breakfast items.
We left Terminal 3 at 10.40am or so and made our way to Terminal 2 Silverkris business class lounge.

The business class lounge in Terminal 2 is older and had fewer facilities. The waiting area reminded me of a train station. However, it was less crowded than Terminal 3's Silverkris business class lounge.

We visited at the right time where lunch items were put into the buffet area. I had some biryani rice with dhal, and some sweet and sour pork. I also helped myself to some desserts, which tasted alright. The silverware and crockery used were the same as inflight, which gave my wife and I time to familiarise ourselves with the size of the dishes, the grip of the silverware and the mouthfeel of the glassware.
Inflight experience

After a short stay in the lounge, we headed to the gate for our flight. Taking us to Bangkok is 9V-SCV, a 2 year old B787-10. This was our first time on a B787-10 and I was excited to see how it compares with the B787-8 of Scoot.

This was my view from seat 12A. The flight will be 100% full in both cabins, showing the immense love of Bangkok as a destination by Singaporeans and foreigners.

This was also my first time on Singapore Airlines' regional business class product, and I must say that it is very competitive, so much so that Turkish Airlines uses the same seat for their A350s for long haul.
Each seat had a pair of noise-cancelling headphones and a bottle of distilled water, which is devoid of any taste.

I got myself a Bellini as a pre-departure drink and finished it before I remembered to take a photo.

The crew came around with a hot towel, which I happily wiped my face and neck with. A crew member came to confirm my main course ordered via book-the-cook.

After takeoff, the crew sprung into action and begun serving food. As the main menu did not appeal to me, I pre-ordered the Korean Braised beef short ribs. It was delightful and I ate every morsel of food on the plate. I just wish there was more of it. There were only 3 pieces of beef short ribs. Surely the space on the right side of the plate can accommodate another 2 pieces?
The main course was accompanied by a starter of prawns with a Thai-style pomelo salad. This was tasty too. I liked that the prawns are delightfully snappy.
The dessert was sinfully delicious and I would pay $15 to have that on the ground. It's a Milo dinosaur cream cake. For people who live in southeast Asia and perhaps Australia, this tastes exactly like what it sounds like. the Milo taste is deliciously concentrated yet not cloyingly sweet.

As I was one of the first few to get my meal, I managed to finish my food before the bread basket came to me. I took 2 slices of garlic bread, which are always delicious on Singapore Airlines, based on my First class flights last year with them.

I decided to increase the workload of the crew by ordering a Jubilee lining cocktail. This was tasty.

We landed safely in Bangkok where we stayed for two nights.
