Arriving at Bangkok for a very early morning start over to Doha.

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-210729

Today, we're departing from the 'S' Satellite gates so a train ride is required.

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-210824

The train departs regularly (every few minutes) and takes you directly to the Satellite Terminal.

Checked-in for both the flights at the counter, after nearly an hour wait, as online check-in had failed. Staff were very rude and unhelpful.

We were nice and early so took advantage of our PP membership through American Express and tried out the Miracle First Class Lounge.

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-210918

It was very calm and quiet with a reasonable array of food and drinks on offer.

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211033

And flowers everywhere!!

Our aircraft today, A7-APJ, this A380-800 over to Doha Hamad International Airport.

And our seats for the journey, 61A and B, a window and middle seat.

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211114

I love the space you get on a window seat on the A380. It just adds to the comfort so much more!

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211126

Not a great start though. My headphones were broken…

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211136

…and I found a used ear protector in my seat housing. Disgusting!

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211146

We departed late from BKK, also. Not a major gripe as things happen, but apparently it's fairly common for the QR831.

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211201

Although pixelated, I do love a tailcam. What a view!

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211212

And 61A sits right on the wing. I always forget just how big the A380 really is!

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211223

Then the 'service' began, or at least that's what QR calls it. Crew missed our row and began serving his group of 'family friends'. When I pressed the call bell to ask why he had missed myself, my husband and the female sitting on our row, he just rolled his eyes. I must admit, I was absolutely flabbergasted at the rudeness shown. He wasn't serving special meals as all passengers on the two rows in front of us received the same meals as us, so the service was very chaotic.

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211236

I got served this appalling breakfast of a 'squeaky' omelette, potato dauphinoise, a rubbery sausage and french beans in a tomato sauce. This was absolutely awful.

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211304

My husband went for the chicken and whilst the rice was completely clumped together and overdone, he said it was 'average' and 'palatable'.

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211315

This was served with a yoghurt that felt like it had far too much gelatine. It was almost like an overset panna cotta consistency.

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211326

A mixed fruit pot, all of which was absolutely solid…

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211337

And a croissant with strawberry jam. Probably the most redeeming thing on the meal tray!

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211350

Now, the toilets. I don't think I've ever seen them in such a disgusting state in all my decades of flying. They truly were revolting.

photo screenshot-2025-11-23-at-211407

About an hour before landing, a final snack service came around. I went for the vegetarian option. A wrap filled with red pepper and cheese and a chocolate muffin, both were served warm. Nothing spectacular but nothing like the car crash breakfast service we had endured hours earlier.

Great views landing into DOH.

And finally, we were on stand. A relatively long layover now before connecting onwards to LHR. Second review to follow shortly.

Let's see what it's like to connect through DOH - my first time!

Conclusion

Today, I’m flying Qatar Airways’ Airbus A380 from Bangkok to Heathrow, via Doha — a route operated by what’s often called "one of the world’s best airlines". But as you’ll see in this video… this flight was anything but impressive.

From tired cabins and poorly maintained toilets to disinterested crew and lacklustre service, this experience fell miles short of the reputation Qatar Airways has built. I’d imagined something truly world-class — but instead, it felt like any other ordinary long-haul flight, in fact, something worse than average.

Join me for the full review as we cover every part of the journey: from check-in in Bangkok, to transiting through Doha, to our eventual arrival in Heathrow — including the onboard meals, in-flight entertainment, seat comfort, and overall service. Was this just an off day, or has the magic of Qatar Airways begun to fade?
