24 hours in Osaka (we usually stay longer but wanted to focus on Malaysia more as we've extensively travelled throughout Japan in the past).

We did get the evening to explore Osaka and get our sushi fix though, don't you worry! It was extremely humid.

Crossing the bridge towards Osaka-Kansai to check-in for our flight over to Malaysia.

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154002

It's a scenic ride for sure (I shot this after landing into Osaka when the weather was better!).

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-153603

It amazes me that this very airport is slowly sinking (more information on how and why in my video!).

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-153634

Kansai is a very good airport. Easy to navigate, clean and very efficient.

A small queue (less than 10 minutes) to drop our bags at the economy desk. We did enquire about an upgrade to business class and it was very reasonable (around £200pp). We were told though that no business class catering would be loaded for this flight so we would essentially have been paying for the seat alone, so we gave it a miss!

I've also noted a lot more airlines starting to weigh and tag hand luggage. Interesting!

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-153721

The moving kites in the ceiling of the terminal make for an interesting and unique art display, too!

Whilst we did have lounge access at Osaka-Kansai, we decided to stay in the terminal. The Priority Pass lounges are located at the each end of the terminal building which requires a shuttle in order to reach them. As we were short on time, we ate in the airport instead.

Japan NEVER disappoints when it comes to food, like this pork katsu sando with mustard. Delicious!

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-153853

Not to mention some of the best sushi bento boxes around!

Time to get on-board!

Today's aircraft is this Airbus A330-300 in the colours of Harimau Malaya, Malaysia's national football team.

Our seats today were 16A and 16C with the configuration being 2/4/2 in economy.

The legroom wasn't that cramped, either.

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154126

Sadly, the rain started, obstructing my view outside!

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154139

Malaysia Airlines' safety video kept us entertained though. If you haven't seen it, watch it. The song will stick in your head all day!

We climbed out of Osaka towards Malaysia, around 25 minutes behind schedule.

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154317

About 10 minutes into the climb, peanuts were served to all passengers in economy.

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154332

Before being offered a choice of either apple or orange juice, or still water.

Lunch was then served. A starter of prawn and tuna mayonnaise salad, a bread roll, fruit salad and main of garlic chicken with egg fried rice. It was average, nothing amazing but equally not poor.

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154422

Here's the aforementioned garlic chicken dish.

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154436

Accompanied by a drink from the bar, I chose a Coke Zero, a bottle of water and mug for tea and coffee later.

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154451

Time for a sneaky snooze. This blanket was thick and very comfortable.

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154500

Beautifully clear skies up here too, a welcome change from a rainy Osaka.

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154520

The toilets were very clean. That's a patterned floor by the way, in case you thought the same as me!

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154535

No complaints from me on this side.

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154548

The crew were super kind and up for a selfie, too!

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154604

Then it was time for the second meal service. Nothing huge here and interestingly, both options were sweet. A pot of Japanese-brand 'Meiji' ice cream and a madeira-style muffin. All tasty.

Insecticide sprays always mean you're close to the destination!

photo screenshot-2025-10-20-at-154627

And what a picturesque approach into KL that was, too!

Terima Kasik and thanks for reading and watching! I appreciate it.

Conclusion

Join me as I fly Malaysia Airlines’ Airbus A330-300 from Osaka–Kansai to Kuala Lumpur in Economy Class. This 13-year-old aircraft may be showing its age, but the journey offers plenty of insight into the flag carrier’s long-haul product.

In this video, I cover the check-in experience, boarding process, cabin layout, seat comfort, legroom, in-flight entertainment, Wi-Fi, and of course, the meal service. While the food and hardware felt fairly average and a little dated, the flight remained comfortable — and the outstanding cabin crew elevated the entire experience.
