Introduction

Hola de nuevo amigos!
This is part 2 of a Madrid to Bogotá trip vía Paris on Air France.
The first flight is available here:

And now, to our business…

Transit in CDG

As usual for Embraer flights, our flight arrived to Terminal 2G. The flight to Bogotá would likely depart from either the L or M gates at Terminal 2E…let's find out

In other occasions, we would clear the border at Terminal 2G and then be bussed to Terminal 2F where we would walk to the L gates…but this once the process was different.

We were bussed to terminal 2F, and then we would clear the border there. Then it would be a walk to the L gates.

Quick and painless…
On my previous flight through CDG I found the L gates to be a bore and to have not many spots to eat or buy…unless you wanted something from the superfancy stores around.

Since I have Volare Premium, I should technically be able to enter the AF lounge. That once a couple of months before, they refused me…but this time it worked!

The lounge wasn't full. Foot offerings weren't amazing, but it was more than enough for what I needed at the moment.

After my well deserved relaxation time…it was time to buy some French wine for the family

Good to see Diplomático here…great rum

Another thing I found interesting…how everything is geared for Chinese passengers

By the time I arrived, boarding was underway…and so I was good to go.

Besides, an ANA 787 to Tokyo

A sad reminder of a bygone era

Into the AF Dreamliner

Earlier that year I tried the W product…now, let's see how the Y offering was on the 787.

We had to passs through the W cabin nonetheless

I found the seats on par with industry standards. I love how sober and elegant the colours are.
Each seat with its pillow and blanket, along with better-than-usual headphones.

Our menu for the night. Ñom.

I tend to seat at the right spot to see all the wing mechanisms in action; something I've loved to see since I was a kid.

Flight time: 10 hours and a half…I hope I can rest while at it.

Enroute to Bogotá

The day came to an end as boarding was completed…

We took off to the west

The cabin remained dimmed through this first part of the flight

We cruised over France, this time our route would take us across the Bay of Biscay and then over Galicia

As these were still the Covid days…we were given a sanitary kit

After crossing Galicia, it was time for dinner. I went for the chicken.  It came with the tabbouleh and a chocolate muffin. Bread, butter and cheese and a bottle of water too.

It was quite tasty and in fair quantity. I don't love the wood cutlery.

The crossing was fairly uneventful. I was tired and chose to sleep through most of it, I did watch Jurassic World though.
Midflight the other person in my row went to the WC. I had a walk too.

A couple of hours after we had our "happy meals"

While the quantity is generous…it feels quite "unhealthy" and "heavy".  I'd rather have the sandwich IB hands out. But it's a far cry from what KLM gives you…the better catering so far for me.

Nearing Bogotá

Cabin lights are softly lit for landing.

It took some time to disembark….but finally, I was back in Colombia.

Passport control took no time as I used the e-gates. Bags took quite a while, but it wasn't as bad as in MAD.

With this, my trip from MAD to BOG came to an end.

Conclusion

AF did the job more than well. Being able to enter the lounge at AF meant a great difference for the experience. Otherwise, I don't find CDG to be a fun place to spend your time between flights.

The flight itself was good. Service, catering and IFE were quite good, so were the seats. I cannot complain about AF, although I feel the gourmet bag's contents could be reviewed.

Something I dislike about flying AF between BOG and MAD are the schedules. You arrive late either to BOG or to MAD, giving the impression you wasted a whole day flying and arriving tired. This doesn't happen with the KLM flights as you arrive midday to BOG and can arrive in the early afternoon to MAD, let alone the direct flight. This has led me to only use AF when there is a significant savings compared with flying directly on IB.

Coming next: SMR-BOG on LATAM and back to Madrid on Iberia.

Saludos!
