The Club Aspire lounge - it was very busy but they were still accepting Priority Pass.

The inside of the lounge.

The food offerings were very sparse. My husband opted for the teriyaki chicken with vegetables (bottom, left) and said it was bland with the rice resembling the texture of play dough!

Even the salad bar looked sad…

A bonus of this lounge though, the sweeping apron views. I could sit here for hours with a beer in hand!

Boarding today takes place from gate A5, it's small, cramped and total chaos.

This area, in my opinion, really isn't fit for purpose. If this was CityFlyer, fair enough, but boarding an A321neo with up to 220 passengers just isn't realistic.

The new retrofitted cabin on this BA A321neo today!

BA's new Euro Traveller seat - row 18 (D/E/F)

The space was fairly tight, but bearable for such a short flight.

An awesome view of Heathrow post-departure.

The Euro Traveller snack service. A 250ml bottle of Harrogate Spring Still Water and a packet of Shortie 'shortbread-style' biscuits.

Hello from seat 18F!

The rear toilets on this A321neo. Extremely claustrophobic - if you struggle with small spaces head to the front!

The light, airy Euro Traveller (economy) cabin.

Approaching a rather gloomy Madrid.

Finally, touchdown, on schedule. A nights sleep before off to Rio de Janeiro in the morning!

Conclusion

Join me as I take you through the full British Airways experience in Euro Traveller - from the busy halls of London Heathrow (LHR) to the arrival at Madrid-Barajas (MAD).

We’ll begin with check-in, explore one of Europe’s most iconic terminals, take a brief look at the Club Aspire lounge and then board the relatively-new British Airways A321neo for this short-haul hop. Onboard, I’ll walk you through the updated cabin, seat comfort, inflight service, and whether BA still delivers value in economy on European routes.

Is British Airways Euro Traveller still a smart choice for short-haul travel - or has it become style over substance?
