United’s oldest (domestic) first class offering
Arrived at O’Hare about two hours early for this flight. Check in was a breeze and absolutely no one was at the TSA pre check line (which somehow is normal for terminal 1? I haven’t ever had to wait for more than 10 mins). After a somehow easy security experience we head over to the C gates including the lounge.

Any United lounge is not complementary with a domestic first class ticket. This lounge is a great location for plane spotters should I note. You can see the departures or arrivals depending on how the airport is configured that day. It is also close to 2 large sized gates which in the case of this flight has some beauties.

Once departed from the lounge I headed to C20 the departure gate for this day waited about five minutes and then was on board because of the weirdly rare pratice of using 2 gates when you have them both (unlike both the planes above).

The domestic first-class seat is backwards. This seat is unique because it was designed to be backwards, and even though it’s domestic first, it’s a full lay down seat, something that’s sadly been reserved for international first class. Soon after sitting down, we got a choice between water and sparkling wine (both of which were restocked and offered multiple times)
Soon we push and taxi out to 28R for departure

Once past 10,000 and through the clouds we were offered drinks yet again (this time all the choices) and soon after that our meal was delivered.

The meal was amazing compared to United’s old catering and what I’m usually used to on domestic first (biscoff cookies, which are amazing). The potato’s were amazing and the steak was tender and cooked a wee little more than I would like but still acceptable.

We then disappeared over the clouds over Kansas then reappeared over Arizona (which was a big landscape change) sadly meaning we flew right over the Grand Canyon without seeing it.

A meteor crater over Arizona.

March airfield and the end of the flats and mountains means LA. (Also the traffic is a good indicator)

The decent in to LAX was a little choppy because of these little white floating things called clouds. Yet the approach still had some amazing views.

And touchdown, exceptionally smooth and the pilot didn’t slam the reverse thrust and breaks immediately.

Quick taxi to gate 77 going by the international terminal and we’re off into the pit of LAX

Surprisingly it wasn’t that busy, and the rental car buses came quickly, so for that I will say LAX was efficient.
Hi there, thanks for sharing your first review here with us!
United definitely have the upper hand on most domestic flying out of Chicago since they run so many widebodies. Despite the older cabins and the tight 2-4-2 configuration, these UA domestic 777s are muuuuch better in F than any competitor's narrowbody F (except AA A321T, but those are only on premium Transcons).
UA's domestic F catering has improved over the last few years, but domestic F catering is sadly nothing special on most US carriers--the exceptions being JetBlue Mint and Alaska F.
Thanks for sharing and welcome!
Completly agree, United has improved since Covid in many areas. Definitely think it's United and Delta as the big boys nowadays. Thanks for the comment!
