ANA operate two flights to Sydney on days and I always prefer the day time flight depending on my schedule. The previous flight to Tokyo was average on ANA however this flight was absolutely amazing.
I was in the lounge and the first thing I always do is ask for a shower. I was quite lucky with a wait time of 16 minutes. It was a quick walk to the gate and by the time I arrived boarding was about to commence.

Seats had the usual affairs of pillow, blanket, mattress pad, amenity kit and slippers with shoe horn. The lovely crew came around to offer pre departure drinks in plastic cups so I went with Sparkling wine. The menu was also distributed at this time with arrival documentation. I asked for pyjamas which you can keep and there's also a cardigan that they let you borrow for the flight.
We took off on time and standard amenities found in the lavatories are toothbrush, face and body wipe kits and mouth wash sticks.
I asked the crew if I could have a few more amenity kits for souvenirs and they happily retrieved some for me off vacant seats.

Previous flights I'm always opting for the Japanese menu and it was the same on this flight. First service started with a signature ANA signature stick and a marinated shrimp, cheese and olive bowl with a chilled green tea and Castelnau champagne.
The Japanese Washoku commence with an array of colourful appetizers. It was a playground on my palette with a lot of textures and traditional flavours.
Heres the seared bonito fish with Ponzu

Here is the dressed chicken tenderloin & jellyfish with tofu paste
Smoked salmon sushi
Deep fried bullbil fishcake
Chicken and vegetable roll
Champagne and iced green tea

You'd think it was the whole meal service with the tray but that was cleared and another tray was brought out containing the main course.
It was a combination of a grilled Halibut in a soy based sauce as well as a simmered beef in soy sauce and a side of rice, pickles and miso soup. My food coma scale was an 8/10 and food didn't stop here.

The pickled sides, cheese plate and pudding with chestnut cream

There was a choice of three desserts. All three were placed before me. I was forced to eat a fruit plate, a chestnut Mont blanc and some cheese… Challenge accepted.
I asked for a hot tea to try and wash things down as I sat in my seat thinking of how violet went in Charlie and the chocolate factory. The flight attendant reminded me that there was a order anytime menu if I was still hungry. I declined multiple times, I could not eat anymore food at that moment.

My seat reclined into the flat bed and I managed to watch a movie and browse on the wifi which wasn't free. I dozed into a little nap and woke up to the second service prior to landing. It was a grilled Alfonsino (fish) marinated in miso with rice, a side of marinated tofu and spinach, miso soup and Japanese pickles. It was definitely a lighter meal and I appreciated this.
The flight attendant dropped of a vanilla ice cream and a signature ANA chocolate which I broke up and topped the ice cream with it. A tray of landing sweets were offered before descent commenced.

Thanks for sharing your first report here with us ! Very nice flight with ANA! I like long-haul day flights as well, though they’re not as common on the transatlantic routes I usually fly then in the Asia Pacific region. The Japanese meal looks visually beautiful. The presentation is fantastic and wow, there’s sooo much food!
I personally like staggered configurations like this, but mostly when I can get a true window seat. Aisle seats are far too exposed.
A great first review and looking forward to future reports !
Welcome!
Hey KévinDC, thank you for the kind comment and warm welcome! I find myself opting for more day time flights where I can get them as it's more comfortable on the body! I do love the many flights and airline options available in the APAC region! I always go for the Asian meal options as I find the presentation is usually beautiful alongside flavour which goes well in the air. There was so much food available especially the snack menu which is greatly appreciated.
I've done both true window and aisle window seats so definitely agree that you sacrifice privacy when you're exposed to the aisle!
