Introduction
Welcome to another trip report! This is a continuation of my journey that started in Salt Lake city, Utah to Tegucigalpa via DFW & MIA. This trip report will cover the Miami to Tegucigalpa segment. As mentioned in my first segment, AA was having a sale on first class flights from SLC to many Central American countries and one of them being to Tegucigalpa for only $620 USD round trip. After arriving from Dallas/Fort Worth on a Boeing 777-300er in business class, I am now in transit in Miami where I have about 3 hours here. My destination allowed me access to AA's admiral lounges which was a great bonus.
I'm also excited that'll be flying into the infamous (no closed for international flights) Toncontin airport only a few weeks before it's official closure. This airport has been named one of the world's most dangerous airports to land and takeoff from due to its mountainous terrain and short runway. AA used to fly a large B757 into Toncontin however they stopped serving Tegucigalpa in October 2014 and instead were replaced with 2 daily flights from Miami on Airbus A319 aircraft. Join me on the fun ride down to Honduras with me ;).

My flight is AA 961 which is so far showing on time ??

There was a last minute gate change from E4 to E6 so this is our Airbus A319 that'll be taking me to Honduras this morning.
Some information about my plane:
Flight number: AA1531
Aircraft: Airbus a319-115
Registration: N9025B
Delivered: December 17, 2014

Boarding commenced on time and we boarded with group 1.

boarding

Sorry for the blurry photo but this is my seat 1F

Comes with a very nice wing & engine view. Currently though they are still loading cargo. The lead FA welcomed us warmly onboard and told us that she'll be taking care of us on this flight.

This seat is fantastic as it gives you 2 whole windows to yourself!

Next to us is a neighboring B737-800 departing for Cartagena, Colombia ??

The FA later came by offering complimentary earphones to enjoy the IFE with.

Not long after the boarding door closed and it was time to depart. The safety video began to play.

pushback
We pushed back with a small 30 minute delay due to connecting passengers.

You can checkout the full takeoff and taxi in the video below:
jetBlue Airbus A320 bound for New York City (JFK)

Cayman Airways B737 MAX 8

Kalitta Air B767-200F

takeoff
Taking off on runway 8R

Until next time Miami :)

Biscayne Bay

A look at the tray table…

inflight service (lunch)
The FA began with offering a choice of drink along with a small snack.

I went for a classic Coke

almost reaching Cuba ??

30 minutes after takeoff and the FA offered a choice of pesto tomato mozzarella sandwich or taco salad, I went with the first option.

The meal tray came with a side salad, dressing, salad, brownie bar, corn snack and lastly metal cutlery.

Needless to say it was delicious ?. I had some of my seat mate's taco salad which was good too ?.

Flying over Cuba.

A look at the tiny first class cabin.

A look at the controller for the IFE located in the armrest.

Flying over Roatan, Honduras

A few minutes later we reached mainland Honduras close to La Ceiba.

descent
Beginning initial descent into Tegucigalpa.

You can also checkout the entire descent into Tegucigalpa's Toncontin airport in the video below:

In no time we began out steep descent into Tegucigalpa's Toncontin Airport. The city/airport is surrounded by mountains in all sides so we have to come in fast and low. Not to mention the airport's short runway makes it even more challenging for pilots.

It's incredible to be able to fly so close to the roof's of homes below.

Landing on runway 02

Welcome to Tegucigalpa!

arrival
We arrived at the gate slightly delayed but safely at least ;)

One last look at our Airbus a319, thanks for the safe ride!

Thank you for coming along on the journey! This concludes the trip report.

Hi! Thanks for this report! Central America is high on my bucket list. Landing at TGU looks like landing at someone's backyard!! :D
