IB471: Asturias - Madrid. The IB471 is the first flight from Asturias to Madrid of the day, taking off from the Asturias airport 15 kilometers from the city of Avilés at 6:40. It is a very useful flight even if you have to get up early, as it gives you access to the entire Iberia and Oneworld network. It is also a flight widely used by businessmen who need to go to Madrid in the day, or simply people who want to be in Madrid soon. Iberia operates up to 5 daily flights with Madrid. Without a doubt, Asturias is one of the most important airports in Spain.
In my case I am going to use this flight to connect with the Iberia network, specifically with a flight to Milan Linate. Iberia operates from Madrid to Linate and Malpensa airports in Milan. I preferred to use Iberia making a stopover due to the schedule, since from Asturias the company Volotea, based in Asturias, operates to Milan Bergamo. As a curiosity, Volotea has three A319s based at the Asturias airport. This is the most important airport for Volotea in Spain and where it is based. It currently has another base in Spain, but the one in Asturias is the first to operate and the largest.
We arrived at the airport around 5:00 in the morning from Oviedo. The airport is about 10/15 minutes from the city of Avilés, 25/30 from Gijón, from the capital of Oviedo 35 and from the city of Mieres 45/50 minutes.
10 minutes after arriving, around 5:10 in the morning, the Iberia Airport Services staff opens the check-in counters. They will be the billing counters from 1 to 3. 1 will be for Bussines people and 2 and 3 for tourist class. The Iberia Airport Services staff was very attentive and pleasant, also very fast, both in billing and boarding.
Boarding will take place through gate 8, the one normally used by Iberia in Asturias. It is also often used by Lufthansa for its flights to Frankfurt or Munich.

We board the plane and are greeted by an early riser and friendly crew from Iberia. Fabulous crew. They welcomed us warmly and told us about Milan, our connection destination. Upon arrival in Madrid, the crew detailed the boarding gates of the people who had connecting flights. There were passengers for Paris, London, and of course Milan - Linate. There was also some other destination.
