Long-awaited, Norse Atlantic Airways finally touched down in Paris at the end of March, at the start of the IATA 2023 summer season, to offer the French market transatlantic low-cost flights. Reminiscent of the now-defunct Norwegian Long Haul, Norse Atlantic Airways aims to learn from the mistakes of the past, with an improved business model that is less aggressive and, above all, more sustainable. New York has been chosen as the first destination from Paris CDG. Flight-Report had the opportunity to test this new airline in Premium to present it to you.

Flight routing

Norse Atlantic Airways operates from Terminal 7, which recently saw the departure of British Airways, to New York JFK.

photo 1photo 2

From JFK, Norse offers flights to Berlin, London LGW, Oslo, Paris CDG and Rome FCO.

photo 3

check-in

The wait for check-in is minimal; I collect my boarding pass from a smiling agent.

photo 4photo 5

Quick passage through TSA formalities (identity verification, then security) thanks to a fast-track queue for Premium passengers.

Terminal 7 at JFK is fairly standard for an American airport.

photo 6

With a large food court for those wishing to dine before the flight.

photo 7photo 8

boarding

Although our plane arrived on time, it was unable to reach its gate because it was still occupied by a late flight. In the end, it was not until around 1am that boarding began, but always with respect for priorities.

Boarding through gate 2L.

On the right, the 282-seat economy cabin in 3-3-3 …

photo 13

… and on the left, the Premium cabin with 56 seats in 2-3-2 configuration.

photo 14photo 15

Unlike the outbound flight, all seats have Norse headrests.

photo 16

The Premium seat is the 3050 FeatherWeight from HAECO Americas.

photo 17-86241

The pitch (spacing between seats) is one of the best on the market at 43 inches (109cm), compared with 38 inches on most airlines in this class of travel.

I'll be occupying seat 7A, which I'd pre-selected.

Adjustable headrest.

Individual universal socket.

photo 22

Cabin equipment is limited to this bottle of water.

photo 23

The crew offers a welcome drink: water or fruit juice.

We start taxiing for runway 22R in gloomy weather.

photo 25

The cabin is pitch-dark.

in flight

Goodbye JFK!

photo 27

I switch on the entertainment screen in the armrest.

photo 28

No map, just time remaining and flight information. According to the president of Norse, the interactive map option would be too expensive to offer.

photo 29

dinner

The crew's first stop is to offer a blanket and a pair of headphones (offered in Premium).

photo 30

Then the aperitif: I opt for a Gin & Tonic.

photo 31

dinner

The box offered is different from the one on the outbound flight, this one bearing the caterer's logo: Gate Group.

photo 32

Choice of two hot breads.

photo 33

The box includes a starter, the chosen main course, a dessert, a piece of butter and disposable plastic cutlery (nicer than the wooden ones on the outbound flight).

photo 34

The starter is a small chicken salad.

photo 34a

Choice of hot dishes: chicken and pasta or …

photo 35

… beef balls, tomato sauce and mashed potatoes.

photo 36

The portion sizes were right, and I liked the chicken, but not the meatballs: a little bland and served with a too-liquid mashed potato.

Red fruit cheesecake.

photo 37

Excellent!

ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS

The interface is available in English only, and the home screen features 4 categories.

photo 38

Films can be filtered by novelty or style.

photo 39

The catalog remains limited, with 30 different titles.

photo 40

TV programs are a little more extensive, with 60 titles to suit all tastes: documentaries, TV series, children's programs.

photo 41photo 42

And finally, a category on the airline and its philosophy.

photo 43

rest

The seat has a good recline and an integrated leg rest …

photo 44

…but don't forget to bring your pillow.

photo 45

The cabin is turned back on 1 hour and 20 minutes before arrival, which is a little too early for the service we offer. 1 hour or 45 minutes before arrival would be sufficient.

photo 47

It's daylight outside.

photo 48photo 49photo 50

breakfast

Service is by trolley. Note the prosecco in evidence for those wishing a mimosa.

photo 46

Breakfast consists of a hot sandwich and two mini chocolate brownies.

photo 51

Turkey and cheese sandwich with pretzel-type bread, not bad.

photo 52

Flight over Guernsey's Alderney Island

photo 53photo 54

Then the port of Le Havre.

photo 55

No time for a movie, I'm watching "Listing Impossible".

photo 56

approach and arrival

photo 57

Approach for runway 09R.

photo 58

Followed by a quick taxi to our parking spot at Terminal 3.

photo 59

Disembarkation necessarily on foot and by bus here.

Thanks to LN-FNA "Heart of the Valley".

photo 63

Express immigration clearance, as we were the only flight at the time.

Conclusion

Norse Atlantic Airways, which yesterday celebrated the first anniversary of its inaugural flight between Oslo and New York, is gradually expanding to 12 destinations: 5 in Europe and 7 in the USA. In its first 12 months, it operated 2,630 flights carrying almost half a million passengers. France is a priority market for the company, which has decided to base its commercial and technical crews there. Although Norse currently offers only one flight a day from Paris, it intends to step up its operations in the coming months, probably adding new destinations in the USA and/or the Caribbean.

In terms of product, it remains fairly basic and could do with a few adjustments, such as offering a real meal tray instead of disposable boxes, as well as a more extensive IFE. A pillow in addition to the blanket would also be necessary.
The big plus are the crews, who are adorable, considerate, highly motivated and eager to please, even with this simple product.

HIGHLIGHTS :
- Well-respected priority queues for check-in and boarding
- Spacious cabin with a comfortable seat and the best pitch on the market
- Boeing 787 Dreamliner advantages: large windows, mood lighting, less dry air, quiet aircraft and smoother ride technology.
- Excellent catering and a full range of Premium beverages
- Enthusiastic and professional crews, most of whom speak French
- Late flight time to enjoy your last day in New York.

MINUSES :
- No pillows and average-quality blankets
- No geolocation on the IFE
- Meal presented in a cardboard box and with entirely disposable items.
- Wake-up call too early for second service
