Introduction

This was certainly an eventful trip. During my stay, I visited the cities of Taipei, Taichung and Tainan. On a side note, I finally caught COVID during my tript and was sent to a quarantine center for a week. Did not expect that after dodging the virus for almost two years. I must confess it wasn't a pleasant experience and I felt terrible for almost 3 weeks.

Check-in

Made my way to Taoyuan International from Taichung via the High Speed Rain and Metro.

photo img_4011

The airport was still not running at full capacity even though Taiwan was already opening up at this point in time.

photo img_4013

Even the arrival hall was empty.

photo img_4014

The check-in counter was however pretty crowded but the queue cleared with a reasonable speed.

photo img_4016

Still not too many flights from Taoyuan.

photo img_4017

At least we still get a proper boarding pass in TPE. Today I'm seated in 74K. 74K/75K is probably my favorite seats on SQ's 787-10 because of the extra storage space by the side.

photo img_4021

Took a short walk around the check-in area while looking for the toilet. Very quiet.

photo img_4023

And of course I had to visit EVA's Hello Kitty check-in area.

After crossing immigration, it's time to head to the gates.

photo img_4026

Not too far today.

photo img_4027

Passing by the usual assortment of duty-free shops.

photo img_4028photo img_4029photo img_4030

Finally along the main terminal.

photo img_4031

FIDS today.

photo img_4032

Sat around watching shows on my phone until my plane landed and rolled into the gate.

photo img_4035

Walked down to get another view of the plane.

photo img_4037

45 minutes before departure, boarding is announced. KF & SA premium members along with families are called to board first.

photo img_4038

Next, boarding by rows. Since I was seated in the rear, I was in the first group.

photo img_4039photo img_4040

Tickets checked, we're boarding now.

Finally onboard.

Let's have a look at today's flight map.

photo img_4051photo img_4050photo img_4054

Surprisingly, the flight back is decently full. Even the seat besides me is taken.

photo img_4055

Button and jacks.

photo img_4056

Lights were dimmed as the door was closed.

photo img_4057

SQ's safety video played once we pushed out from the gate.

photo img_4058photo img_4061

Seatback contents. Airsickness bag, Inflight wi-fi guide, KrisShop magazine & Safety card.

A quick visit to the lavatory once the plane reached cruising altitude.

photo img_4069photo img_4068

About an hour into the flight, dinner was served.

photo img_4074photo img_4075

Two options were served for dinner. Can't remember the options, all I remember I was served the wrong meal. SQ's regional catering is pretty disappointing now.

photo img_4076photo img_4077photo img_4078

Flight update post-meal and we're cruising past the Philippines.

photo img_4080photo img_4081photo img_4084

An uneventful flight as I watched a movie.

photo img_4085

On final approach to Singapore.

Touchdown!

photo img_4097

disembarkation

Disembarkation takes a bit of time since the flight was quite full.

photo img_4098photo img_4099

Arrived at Gate F60. What a walk.

After immigration, the final step. Bag collection.

Conclusion

Good service and good product from SQ minus the catering which is sorely lacking in quality post-pandemic. Given a choice in future, I would definitely pick BR on this route. Sorry SQ.

  • Hello, FiamaArin!

The more I read about SQ, the more of a fan I become!

That's a sleek, nice looking cabin. And the screens look large and sharp. Definitely a better Y cabin than that of AV or CM, on this side of the world.

Too bad you got the wrong meal! Was it fish or chicken? It still looked neatly presented, I think.

Arrived at Gate F60. What a walk.

I'm seriously thinking of including a pair of roller skates. I had a bit of a trauma with long corridors recently. lol

    EVA's Hello Kitty check-in area.

That's completely out of this world!

This was a great report! Thank you very much for sharing this experience, FiamaArin!

    • Hi Pilpintu,

I asked for the beef meal (I think) but got the sweet and sour fish. No harm though.

      Yours sincerely,

  • HI FiamaArin, nice report as always! Very nice experience on SQ, but its unfortunate to once again see that the Y catering has still not returned to pre-pandemic quality. Of course, even SQ's disappointing Covid-era catering is still miles ahead of regional catering on flights of similar length in Europe or North America, which is mostly BOB even on legacy airlines these days.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Hi Kevin,

Always appreciate you reading my reports. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have a few more coming up. Please stay tuned.
