Lublin Airport- The Departure experience!
Its not often a new airport comes up on this website, as I did the arrival into Lublin Airport a few months ago, I thought during this "quiet path" of mine I'd report on my Ryanair flight from Lublin to London (LTN) with a look at the Lublin Airport experience for the benefit of those who might not get to try this unique airport.

A look at the landside offerings at Lublin Airport, including a disused train station!
Lublin Airport only opened in 2012. Ryanair, LOT Polish Airlines and Wizzair have been the main airlines serving the airport on various services coming and going over the last decade. Because of the erratically low PAX numbers, the airport's train station has been disused since 2019. The airport has a tourist information office, a good café and a shop, though these places do shut in between long gaps of flights. The check in and bag drops also close off until about 3 hours ahead of the departing flights.
A recent routes update for March 2023 is a new Bergamo (Milan) service coming to Lublin operated by both Ryanair and Italy's newest airline AeroItalia. Wizzair will cut its year round Oslo and Eindhoven services, but maintain its London LTN services as well as two seasonal routes.

Having a Polish donut with a White Americano coffee from the café in Lublin Airport
When security did eventually open up, there was the usual "phaff" before going through a very small Duty Free shop- with some okay pricing, especially for passengers flying to Norway and UK, which aren't in the European Union. Compare to the UK (at least) I've been taken aback by the cheap pricing of everything in Poland.

This has got to be up with the likes of Bournemouth Hurn and Southampton Eastleigh for smallest Duty Free shop in an Airport!

Going airside I went to the kiosk area to buy a quick snack, which turned out to be a hot-dog in a baguette roll alongside a can of Polish beer, I am certain it came to about £4 when converted, which for an airport price is pretty good going!
There is also an Airport Lounge on offer, which is probably aimed at LOT Polish Airlines frequent flyers (and formerly Lufthansa customers) as well as a smoking cubicle, which isn't something you see in a lot of airports these days. Not something I personally use, but I do know people who find them convenient.

There are five departure Gates at Lublin Airport, three in the schengen area, where I got my snack, as well as two more gates on hand for non-Schengen flights, including the flights to London. There were some nice opportunities to get some pictures airside if you are waiting on your flight, and despite the darkness, I eventually grabbed a shot of my aircraft on arrival into Lublin from Luton- where it would return to.

Ryanair FR583 (LUZ-LTN)
Flight routing
- 1
- 2FR583 - Economy - Lublin to London - Boeing 737-800
My flight that evening was Ryanair flight FR583, which was operated by Boeing 737-8AS(WL) EI-ENP. This aircraft was 11 years old at the time of the flight having being delivered brand new to Ryanair in late January 2011, its flown for the Irish airline its entire career to date and had recently being based at London Luton at the time of this trip.

Boarding eventually began for the return flight to London Luton, I opted to wait until the near end of boarding to get on board as I didn't book priority and with Ryanair (or any budget airline) I really don't think its worth it.
Some nice shots across the apron were to be had that evening of both my Boeing 737 and the resting Dash 8 Q-400 of LOT next to us. I also couldn't resist one final snap of the Lublin Airport terminal, as it'll realistically be the last time I visit here for a while….

Boarding at the front aft stairs connected to the Boeing 737-800 tonight as I was to be in Seat 8A, so just in front of the engine and wing for this evening, making it easier to film/photograph during this flight.

I settled into one of the "Hybrid" cabins. There are a number of older/middle aged Boeing 737-800 in the Ryanair fleet which have the older cabin but are fitted with the newer slimline seats as seen on planes with the Boeing Sky Interior. Quite a few aircraft still fly about with the older "plush" seats, which are duly being phased out.

Pushback, taxi and take off was pretty uneventful and quite prompt that evening as we were the only plane flying out that evening. The window was a bit misty from the prior flight, but it cleared up eventually and a good night view was to be had as we rocketed out of Lublin. The outbound flight was very quiet, but this flight headed for Luton had a more healthier load factor!

So long and farewell Lublin, it was nice to visit!

Cruising back to London, the 2 hour flight was a good opportunity to enjoy a 10EUR meal deal with Ryanair as getting home that night was the main concern for me as I was facing a good 2-3 hour journey from Luton to Bournemouth once the flight was complete.
My weapons of choice for this "Meal Deal" concoction was the Bacon Bagette (which I personally hadn't had before) alongside a cup of tea and a can of sour cream pringles. It was perfectly ideal!

I got up to use the facilities on the Boeing 737, which gave me the chance as I waited to go in the lavatory to snap a cheeky picture of the galley trolleys for this report!

We arrived into London Luton just after 23:30pm, so it was a very late arrival in terms of timing, hence all the loading up during the stay in the airport and flight. We taxied around LTN before parking up on stand.

Leaving the plane me and my friend went to the passport control at Luton, the E-gates were working that evening and its important to note to Luton flyers that flights do regularly come in very late in the evening, so it could very well be busy getting on for midnight if you arrive there, so do factor that in should you need to.

With that, I conclude this Flight Report article, and I hope you enjoyed the read. If you are from Poland or the London area, I also hope that this encourages you to make the journey between these two cities. I personally enjoyed Lublin and would like to make another day trip in the future. A bit of insight, during the 2023 summer season you can fly a combined Wizzair/Ryanair itinerary for a day trip to and from London Luton on Tuesdays starting from as little as £75.
