Hi,
Welcome to my first flight after a long break due to Corona virus. I was excited to see how flying would be in those strange days and I am happy to share my experience with you.
When I arrived at Munich Airport Terminal 2 the whole area was deserted and there was nobody in the Check In queue in front of me.

Munich Airport has temporarily closed whole Terminal 1 & Terminal 2 satellite building. Almost no shop or restaurant is open which really leads to some crazy atmosphere. Normally airports used to be places of life, shops and restaurants. Now it is the total opposite.
Security check was quick with only 5 people in the queue in front of me as only 2 check points were open.
Once airside everything was deserted as well - not even the lights were lid in the corridors.

However the Lufthansa Business Lounge has reopened just 2 days before my flight - at least some lonely temple of some light and atmosphere.

The lounge had some closed areas and was quite empty as well of course.

Due to hygiene standards the regular buffet was closed. The only selection avaiable were:
- Still water bottles
- Some packaged salt & sweet snacks
- Hot drinks from a servant hiding behind a trolley with protection
At least there were some drinks & snacks.

On the way to my gate I spotted a Finnair flight that is now handled in Terminal 2 due to Terminal 1 closure. Surprisingly newspapers are still available for free in the gate area but currently not in the Lufthansa Lounge.

Closer to my boarding gate I spotted the Lufthansa CRJ900 sitting in the rain next to another one heading for Bremen.

Boarding started on time with passengers asked to walk directly via the apron - nothing that ever happened before Corona at Munich Airport.
Surprisingly no special Corona boarding was conducted - instead the regualr flow with Priority boarding first etc.

A very friendly cabin crew welcomed us at the aircraft door and handed over hygiene towels for desinfection.
I reached my seat in the back of the cabin with almost no one close to me for ca. 5 rows. Load factor was very lox - maybe 6 passengers in Business and another 15 in Economy.

We took off on time for a flight of ca. 1 hour up to the most northern part of Germany - the island of Sylt next to Denmark.

Once cruising altitude was reached, curtains to Business Class were closed and as far as I could see the standard service took place there with meal trays being served follwoed by drinks in proper glasses.
Next bottles with still water were distributed to Economy Class passengers.

About 5 minutes later I was surprised to see the full drinks trolley appearing in Economy Class as according to Lufthansa's Corona interim service policies only water bottles are available on flights of up to 150 minutes until 31AUG2020.
The very friendly flight attendant mentioned that they adapt the service to the load factor and today's flight would allow a full drinks service in Economy Class as well. So I ordered some white wine and tea. A great service that I would not have expected. x

Flight continued very calm.

Soon we started descend into Westerland/Sylt where we landed on a rainy evening.

Our CRJ900 parked directly in front of the very small terminal building.

We disembarked by a short walk into the very small arrivals area where luggage arrived ca. 5 minutes later.

A very relaxed start to a great holiday.
Thanks for reading,

Vielen lieben Dank Alex for this flight-report! Interesting now to compare airlines in the post COVID area ;)
And I must say that LH positively surprises me. Le lounge has reopened (offer is low but at least there is something offered), flights to even Sylt have restarted and the board service was complete. Comparing with other legacy carriers this is top notch service :))
Hi Alex and thanks for this report,
It's really bad to see these huge terminals empty and quiet, however, it kind of gives peace, especially in MUC where both terminals are always crowded.
- I find it really good that Lufthansa has opened their lounges in FRA & MUC and they're still offering some snacks and drinks at the lounge.
- This is also nice, alcohol and hot drinks being available on short-haul flights. Here in Turkey, TK does not have both on domestic flights, including Business Class.
I hope you enjoyed Sylt, the island, and your vacation.
Once again, thank you for both this report and the HAM-MUC one.
Thanks for this review.
Nice to see that LH maintained a small service even in economy. Kudos to the crew for the improved drink service.
Sad to see MUC so empty, the airport takes advantage of the European borders reopening.
