Hello everyone, now that we are all staying at home (I hope), time to dig up some pictures from my trip in Mexico back in January for my first ever FR on this site!
This was a short hop from Ixtapa to Mexico City (CDMX) on Aeromar - a small regional carrier affiliated with United Airlines. We flew on an ATR72-600, and the flight was ~40% full so there were plenty of empty seats. There was no business cabin on this equipment.
Overall, the Economy class experience was pretty standard (standard seat pitch and recliner). Cleanliness was acceptable, although the lavatory could use a bit more care. The flight attendants were pleasant throughout, yet for this short flight there was not much to speak of. Beverages on offer include cervezas (only Heineken), soft drinks, and some juices/water. They also serve a quick snack (choice between peanuts or a nacho-type of snack which I opted for).
The best thing about the flight is certainly the view from out the window. Due to the low operating ceiling of the ATR72, we were treated to a full course of the various beautiful landscapes of Mexico. The weather en route was perfect that day (same cannot be said for the arrival weather in CDMX however - abysmal if not miserable).
Upon arrival, there was no immigration to be cleared since this was a domestic flight. We also were able to make our way over to T1 using the free AeroTren to use the Mexico City Metro. For ~$0.50, you can go from the airport to downtown historical centre instead of the usual $30 taxi fare. Of course, it is the Metro - so your call.

Hi HenryTN, thanks for sharing your first report here with us! A pretty exotic review IMO since you don't often see Aeromar reports. As you said, pretty standard flight for Mexico, where some sort of alcohol is usually free in economy, which I totally appreciate, unlike in the US. Definitely some nice views on this flight.
Welcome to Flight-Report and look forward to seeing future reports!
Hello HenryTN!
Lovely report!
I guess standard is good these times. I have just read another report about a similar flight on a small regional airline and the experience was terrible!!
In the home of Corona beer??? That's below standard!! haha
You left me speechless with those photos! I had heard about Ixtapa, but the views from the plane are spectacular!! Incredible geography! Ixtapa has just been added to my bucket list.
GASP! Could you elaborate a little more on that, please? Do you mean it's dangerous, uncomfortable...???
Que vengan muchos más!! :D
Gracias por compartir!
Hi Pilpintu, thanks for the comment!
It is super crowded especially during peak hours, to the point of you being squeezed against people next to you (literally meatpacking in every sense of the word). Also, I have heard stories of tourists being pickpocketed on the Metro. However, during my stay in CDMX I used the Metro almost daily, and I never really felt unsafe or worried. Aside from the incredible crowd, it was a good and cheap way of navigating this huge metropolis. To me, the metro is an unmissable experience for anyone visiting the city.
