Hi,
It was a rainy day when I reached Melbourne Airport for my long return trip back to Europe. Thai Airways uses the International Terminal 2 here in Melbourne as all other foreign carriers. Check In was a breeze and handled by a very friendly agent who explained everything detailled to me and also presented me a voucher for express security control.

Security was very quick and once airside I spotted several nice longhaul planes including my splendid looking Thai Airbus 350.

Thai Airways uses the Air New Zealand Lounge here at Melbourne which is located at the groud floor of the terminal and by this provides some nice low level views on the parked aircrafts. The lounge was one of the nicest I have visited so far: very modern and relaxing style, great choice of food & drinks and plenty of quiet seating. I just had some afternoon tea & snack however.

Boarding started on time and with priorities totally fine respected. Boarding to the Airbus 350 was via two separate airbridges and Business Class used the fron door 1L. I was welcomed very friendly by a nice lady with the typical 'Sawasdee Kha'. The cabin was really nice, calm and modern. Once you stepped on board you felt very relaxed and in a nice atmosphere.

I had a nice window seat in the rear part of the Business Class cabin. The seat was very comfortable and provided fine privacy plus enough stowage areas.
I was soon approached by a friendly lady and asked for my welcome drink choice. I ordered some champagne which was served within seconds. Also a very nice feature is the small orchid flower that is placed on each seat's tray.

Hot towels followed soon. They were very hot with a nice scent and of very thick and good quality - one of the best hot towels I had so far. Also coming with nice Thai branding on them.
Waiting on the seat was a small cushion, a bigger cushion, blanket and slippers. Also a Lacoste branded amenity kit was already waiting on each seat. The content was nice - however strange enough no socks or eye shades were provided.

Next some really nice active noice cancelling headsets with nice Thai branding were handed out.

In the magazine racks the menu & wine list for today's flight has already been placed before boarding.

Once boarding was completed the cabin crew welcomed each Business Class passenger personally again, introduced the expected flight time and the service planned for the flight - a very nice gesture. At this moment meal choices were also asked and I opted for the Thai pork dish as main dish for the first meal service and the fried rice for the second service.
We left the parking gate some minutes before scheduled departure time and soon took off - the Airbus 350 really is a very quiet aircraft.

Climbing out into a cloudy layer the flight started and would take 9 hours 15 minutes today.

Once we were over the clouds and sun hit the cabin a nice & warm mood lighting of orange & pink was turned on in the cabin.

Next vouchers for free 20 MB of internet access were distributed.

I settled in and about 25 minutes after take off the aperitif service started with a trolley being rolled down the aisle. However it was not a standard airplane trolley but a lower one where all drink choices were nicely presented. I had a Gin & Tonic & some water. This was served with a nice selection of nuts & dried fruits.

Soon another hot towel was served on a very nice silver tray - very classy.

About one hour into the flight I was approached by a friendly cabin crew memeber, my table was laid with linen and the starter tray was served directly from the galley by hand. Another flight attendant followed soon with a nice choice of warm bread from a basket - the garlic bread was really tasty.

The cutlery also had a very nice, high quality design.

I was continously asked for drink choices and my water glass was topped up for sure 5 times during the whole meal service. All in all the service flow felt perfect, very personal & well planned.
Starter tray way removed soon and my Thai main dish tray was served - every part of this meal tasted great and so full of flavour. The taste was excellent and also the cabin got this nice scent of Thai cuisine like in an Asian restaurant.

I decided to have some white wine with the main which was also refilled several times.

Service continued with a cheese plate and I was proactively offered a glass of port wine with it which came in a nice small shot glass.

Last part of the service was dessert where the two different choices were offered on a tray and I decided for the opera cake.

I finished my meal with some tea, a digestif and a chocolate that had been distributed in the meantime.

The flight passed by very smoothely and I watched some movies - the entertainment system was very nice, modern and offered a huge selection.

Also outside some very nice sunset views could be catched while the flight progressed in direction north.

The toilet was very clean and nicely decorated - I loved that they provided nice towels that were similar to the kind of hot towel material used on many other airlines.
About 2 hours before landing service started with another nice hot towel served on a silver tray. Tray had been laid with linen again.

Soon the ordered second service meal was served restaurant style onto your table without any tray placed there. This meal also tasted great and was so rich in taste.

This great flight ended soon and we started descend into Bangkok airport while some nice and calming msic was played in the cabin - this added to a very relaxing atmosphere during the approach.

Thanks for reading,

An excellent service provided I would say and I absolutely do not understand why a carrier like LH would be a 5 star and THAI not. Though Thai is often way more expensive if you compare them to their competitors on their routes.
Yes I totally agree - Thai Business Class for sure would be worth 5 stars and Lufthansa's not. Seats and service are definitely not as good on LH.
Thanks for this FR.
Wow, your report really makes me wanna try TG business class! From the menu to seat and cabin tones and of course the crew it seems like one of the best J class experience out there.
Were eyemask and other amenities available upon request ?
Thanks, I did not ask for eye masks or other things - so unfortunately I cannot tell.
