It was my very first time to be in First Class. I was really excited and amazed by everything onboard.
I bought a Business Class ticket for this flight, and a friend of mine, who is a Marco Polo Club (Frequent flyer program of Cathay) Diamond Member used one of his four bookable upgrades (mid-term benefit for Gold and Diamond member) to upgrade me to First Class. Cathay made the bookable upgrade vouchers valuable by allowing passengers to earn the amount of Asia Miles and Club Points of the upgraded class. That means I could earn the club points and Asia Miles of First Class!
Upon check in, I've visited The Wing First Class Lounge. Got some drinks there to refresh myself!

She brought me to Singapore that day, B-KPS, a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft…

Boarding Gate: 33

Once I stepped into the aircraft, the Inflight Service Manager (ISM) looked at my boarding pass and brought me to my suite. After a while, the Senior Purser (SP), Queenie, came and served me with my welcome drink - coke with lemon. She then introduced herself and her colleague, Jessie, Flight Purser (FP) responsible for First Class. Jessie then came and handed me the hot towel.

The ottoman, also a seat for companion.

Bose Headsets are were provided by Queenie

Up in the air….

Soon after the seatbelt sign has turned off, Queenie came and gave me the menu. She said, "Jessie will come and take the order for you later."
Nuts and Cathay Delight, before starting the meal

Appretiser, potato salad with marinated prawns

Butternut soup was available, then we had main course. I requested for two main courses, beef and afternoon tea set.

After the main course, Queenie came and asked whether I would like to have cheese, desserts and fruits. Of course I said YES!

The meal service lasted for at least 1.75 hours. After the meal service, Queenie came and asked whether I could help her to feel in the questionnaire.

I asked for a cup of Latte before landing. Pralines were served too.

A hot towel ended the whole flight….. Back to reality again….

Hello, Ken, and thank you for this FR covering your first F-class trip!
I see Cathay still hasn't lost their touch after all the cost-cutting. Just from reading this report I actually can't tell if their F product has been affected by their recent cost-cutting measures.. Pretty good job, that.
Also, for future references, it'd make a nice addition to your FR if you include spotting photos taken in both airports.
Thanks again for sharing!
Thanks for this very entertaining FR, in F class between probably my two favourite airports in the world.
I don't know a lot about the Marco Polo Club -- it's very cool that the upgrade certs actually move you into the proper F fare, and that earning status/redeemable miles is based on the upgraded fare class. That's a very nice touch. Can these be used systemwide? Because that could be a very, very, VERY valuable upgrade on, say, HKG-JFK.
Was there any reaction to your request for two mains? And were you traveling alone, or with your friend who sponsored you? I ask because of the shot of the table set with the two steaks plus the tea set.
Catering looks very nice for the relatively short hop between HKG and SIN.
Thanks again for sharing!
Four bookable upgrades are available as mid-tier benefits for Gold and Diamond members. They receive them when they reach a certain club points. For Gold members, bookable upgrades are only available for short or medium haul flights; For Diamond members, they can use the bookable upgrades for any flights. My friend was still a Gold member when he received the bookable upgrades. Therefore, he couldn't use it for flights to JFK.
And yes, I was travelling with my friend. We shared the afternoon tea set. The First Class Cabin wasn't full, there were only 4 passengers. My friend and I are somehow called as revenue passengers, while the other two passengers got a free upgrade from Business due to the overbooking. One of the upgraded passenger didn't request for the meal, so I'm sure they got spare. And to be honest, I don't think they will say no to my friend, a Diamond member, for an extra main course.
You are right, the catering was awesome. I was so full after the meal service (That never happens on CX YCL or maybe even JCL :P)
