I had almost 50,000 Flying Blue Miles which were due to expire in December 2016. Normally that wouldn't be enough to buy a return long-haul business flight, but KLM's promo miles offer a few destinations every month for which you only need 50,000 miles instead of 100,000. Almaty was one of these destinations recently, and as I've never been to Kazakhstan, I decided to book AMS-ALA-AMS.
AMS was not very crowded at this time of the day and I was trough immigration and security in a few minutes.

Many of you know KLM's Crown Lounge. It's huge, can get crowded and offers a good choice of drinks but only a very limited choice of food.

Today's aircraft to ALA was PH-AOD, A330-200, named Piazza del Duomo Milano, delivered in 2006.

The aircraft was in a reasonably good - but not very good - condition, and the seat was only an older lie-flat seat. I was however only on a six-hours daytime flight, so I had no problem with this. Legroom was huge for this 1A seat.

A welcome drink - champagne - was offered quickly.

The amenty bag had all necessary items for this flight.

Newspapers were also offered.

Take-off was right on time and we had fantastic views over the Netherlands.

The noise cancelling headphones were very good.

Menus were distributed a few minutes later.

Plenty of nuts and champagne to start with.

The appetiser was very good.

The salmon was outstanding.

The dessert was also very good.

Although the IFE was definitely not the latest one, there was a very good selection of music. The selection of films was not bad but there not many films I was interested in. There were however several interesting short aviation videos about KLM.

Snacks were offered shortly before landing, including very good sushi.

Altogether it was a very, very enjoyable flight. The seat was OK, legroom was plenty, service was very friendly and efficient, and the food was absolutely outstanding. I would definitely fly again on KLM business.
Hello! This seems to be a pretty decent flight with KLM. Always wondered what J service could be like on a wide-boy mid-range flight with KL. Looks ok although I am not a great fan of their food. The lounge though is as dull as ever. A shame for a flagship premium facility. How about the loads?
Food was actually very good on the plane. Load was around 75%.
Sushi! How novel, especially for such a route.
Looks like you had a nice flight with KLM in J. The food looks good, and I really like the plating and cutlery KLM has. Everything looks very stylish!
Now i have read the outbound flight I turn to your 1st report. First of all welcome on board !
KLM did a very good job on this flight with a catering that looks great and , i trust you, is good.
The seats could be much better however as you mentioned it's still ok for a 6 hour flight.
I did not know that this coulour was available for the amenity kit and I like it.
Thanks for sharing with us.
