I took this longhaul flight in connection to my short domestic hop from Munich.
I spent around one hour in the quite nice Lufthansa Business Lounge for Z gates which offers some very nice apron views.
However the stay was not very relaxing as the lounge was very crowded and also full of loud kids during this morning.
Priority boarding also did not work good here at Frankfurt as again no separate lines were enforced by ground staff. Instead a huge crowd blocked all separate desks and you had to fight your way to reach the Priority boarding desk.
This is my Boeing 747 taken from the flight from Munich on which I taxied in earlier this morning:
Once on board the crew on this Lufthansa flight was extremely friendly and helpful.
My seat was on the very cosy upper deck of this old Boeing 747-400 which is still one of my favourite aircrafts.
Upper deck was served by two very friendly male flight attentands who provided a great service calling you by name during the whole flight and providing drink refills very often etc.
The Lufthansa Business Class seats are comfortable and nice.
However I think there is no real separation between seats and different rows. So you actually can see all your neighbours during the flight.
This makes a crowded feeling and I much more prefer products of other airlines that allow more privacy.
I never really understood why LH decided for this layout while other LH group airlines like Swiss or Austrian provide more intimate suite layouts.
Service started with a glass of water before take off.
Menus were als handed out and the flight attendant already took orders for aperitif service drinks and meal choices.
Flight time was announced as 8 hours.
Taking off in a westerly direction flying over city of Mainz:
After take off the meal service was very nice.
Lunch tasted very good and the restaurant service concept without trays and trolleys is really nice.
The trolley was only used once during service to set up tables with table cloth, cutlery and starter etc.
After a relaxing flight a very nice pre arrival meal was served.
Service was from a trolley but again very nice presented without a tray.
During the flight a trolley in total was only used twice and in those cases it was nicely decorated and completely wrapped in some nice special LH Business Class linen.
We landed on time and I really like the nice old fashioned buildings of Washington Dulles Airport which you also know from many old Airport movies :)
Still the great old style People movers are around here and I was very happy that we had to use one to get shuttled from our B gate to the main terminal immigration hall.
