As we are getting closer to the trip's end, it is time to say goodbye to Australia, which is an absolutely mind-blowing country when looking at its sheer different landscapes.
A lot of European people seem to rather come here in November or at another period of the year but to give you my point on that, if you want to go in Australia in their Winter, meaning July, August, just go.
The weather is mostly very enjoyable if you stay North (we had 2 days -2hrs on Daintree rainforest and it started to rain when we left SYD- of rain in a 20 nights stay).
It is not hot, so obviously if the main goal is tanning you'll be disappointed. But to enjoy the Landscapes without 40/50°C, that is the moment !

I - GETTING TO THE AIRPORT
As cabs are ridiculously expensive in SYD, we took a UberX.
Phil was our friendly driver, he helped us getting our luggages on the trunk and french opera was playing on the stereo of his Subaru Liberty, a nice start. He drove us in SYD in just 20 minutes with some traffic, and helped us to get our luggages out of the trunk once again. I mention this, because it is generally a thing cab drivers are reluctant to do, when they don't just leave you do it alone.
Price ? 15 AUD gap between the two (Uber cheaper of course)… So you know the right thing to do ;)
II - LANDSIDE
We had a wonderful malaysian male agent at MH Web-ckeck-in counter.
He did not realize immediately that I was already checked-in (weird because it was the counter for that) but was very helpful and kind.
He informed us there was an issue with the 2nd flight. I checked-in on both websites once at a time, in the right order but anyway, issue. He couldn't deliver us our BPs for the AF flight.
However, after calling his supervisor, he was then authorised to tag our bags directly to CDG (hopefully, 2.5hrs transit…) and explained we would have to get our BPs for the AF flight at the transit desk once at KUL. Perfect! There was a problem and he found a way to avoid more troubles than we could have experienced.
He handed us our MH BPs along with a KUL transit map and with the Australian Border exit cards. I asked for a pen which he was happy to give me, we filled the form on an empty counter next to his, then I handed him his pen and we left.
We did not really got to the airport that early because KL website advised us to arrive at LEAST 3hrs before departure.
I think we arrived just 1hr45 before, due to having wait Uber instead of directly taking a cab (Sofitel cut me the wifi right after check-out and I struggled to connect to other hotspots) and it was sufficient enough.
At security, once again, a Malaysian agent, very friendly and not agressive at all for a security agent. I love that. He did not bothered us with shoes and that kind of things, it was so fast I don't even remember it ! He asked for our destination and wished us a very good trip.
Immigration, another story, queues were long and I did a mistake by taking the manual check queue instead of the automated one… I ended up in the queues for 15 minutes I'd say, when an Italian (…) tried to sneak just in front of the immigration agent. It was a mess and he thought he could sneak this way. Incredible. Already in Europe I did not yet took off from SYD !
III - AIRSIDE
At 12:31 PM we were airside, so it took 20/25 minutes to cross security, , with the issues at MH counter, the exit Aussie card filling, the immigration manual check queue and security… quite fast I think.
Some works were on their way
The HUGE Heinemann Duty Free store with Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) inside.
We are gate 33, 6th flight on the FIDS with my codeshare shown. It states Gate open ?? I thought I would have had to run all of a sudden!
Our beast ! It is 9M-MTJ (21 sept. 2012)
iPhone quality with Scoot 789 behind
Canon quality with ISO 1600 (I forgot about it…)
The national symbol
Whole tail, beautiful colors
IV - BOARDING
We boarded at 1:20 PM. All priorities were respected.
V - FROM APRON TO THE AIR
VH-EBG is our QFA333 neighbour
Pushback at 1:49 PM, punctuality starts well !
QF Q400, JQ A320
Some QF 738s
A Tiger A320 lands before we take off
Rainy take off :
Climbing through the clouds for a while
VI - CATERING 1 - LUNCH
Service started at 2:30 PM.
Lunch and appetizer were served at the same time
Peanuts from MH
Apple Juice and natural water as beverages
The complete tray
Branded towel
Salmon salad with onions and carrots. The salmon was incredible.
The main now, chicken with carrots, potatoes, beans. My mother had maize as well. I'm not a huge fan of vegetables but the chicken was perfectly cooked. The main was healthy.
Cheese, quite good for industrial
The cake was sticky but the lemon taste was okay.
The ended tray (3:15 PM) and my blanket as a towel (did not want to use the branded one to take it back home)
We were now already cruising at FL340.
We were handed water once again at 4:40 PM (SYD time since the beginning)
VII - CATERING 2 - DINER
Before diner was served, the captain adjourned the service due to strong turbulences. I was suddenly afraid about my diner^^
Anyway, a while later we were granted water and apple juice twice
Diner service started at 9:10 PM SYD time / 7:10 PM KUL time. It started just 1hr50 before landing time, which is better timing than AF.
Orange juice plus chicken pizza, plus a cookie.
I hoped to have one, and it was very spicy and had, overall, a nice taste.
At 8 PM KL time everything was taken back! This is what we call proactivity as I had just the time to end my pizza! Indeed, the friendly female FA nearly took the box from my hand.
Though, I understand they wanted to be as fast as possible as otherwise, we would'nt have had our meal.
VIII - CABIN + IFE
Seatback pocket content
Safety card
Air Sickness bag
Going Places, MH magazine
Someone managed to ruin the magazine with its orange/apple juice… not good.
MH fleet up to date (you'll see why I say that later)
Headset
Almost broken, misconnection with IFE
Seat
Comfy J class, lie flat (took during boarding)
Pitch
Lights, air and signs.
My signature, seat cushion
IFE
About the airshow, I'd like to know why SIN is never shown on the different IFEs. On QF, it was Johor Bahru and so it is on MH. I'd understand for MH but for QF… ?
I would have liked to see Flinders Range and Lake Eyre
Only two languages
Selamat Datang !
Terima kasih MH ! (it means thank you)
Strong headwinds
The entertainment part
USB power outlet
Remote
Controls
Keypad
The IFE can be tilted a bit
That one made me laugh a lot. Malaysia have a conservative society so, seeing this movie onboard MH, a movie aiming at pretending traditional family model is over is quite fun.
Problem here… they still seem to have 734s, 744 and even 742F GE ! No A380 in sight…
Toilets were very (like very) dirty! Pax put a mess inside. Crew cleaned along the flight but it was too much for me.
Liquid hand soap MH branded
Men and Ladies Cologne plus another product. Nice touch but all seemed so dirty I did not use them. What a pity !
General views
No moodlight
IX- CRUISING VIEWS
15h11
16h11
17h10
17h49
The seatbelt sign got off at 20h15 SYD time, 18h15 KUL time. We experienced turbulences from Katherine Gorge (300km south of DRW) to Indonesia, at least for 1hr 10 min non-stop.
Our top cruising altitude was 12192 meters, we did a step at 11134m.
Lights came back at 20h38 next to Banjarmasin
As you saw on the IFE pics, we crossed the Equator offshore Pontianak.
X- DESCENT AND LANDING TO JETBRIDGE
Landing was estimated at 8:46 PM KUL time, 6 minutes late. No points to lose for MH because we departed on time.
XI - DEBOARDING
Deboarding 16 minutes late.
XII - TRANSFER
We got to the first transfer counter to have our BPs but it was apparently for MH only… Whether AF is shown on it. The agent there told us to get them on the other side of the Skytrain. So we did. On the other side, our luggages' tags were 'updated' and they delivered us our BPs for ou next AF flight.
